GUSTAVO NUNES GORETKIN

About Me

From an early age, I have been attracted to technology. I have undoubtedly participated in this love affair all my life, and have reason to believe it shall continue all my life. To me, science is one of the most important aspects of human knowledge. It provides answer to many of our questions and explains many phenomena of our world.

I am compelled to study and learn about these phenomena because I want to create inventions which improve fields like manufacturing or medicine. These improvements ultimately lead to a better quality of life.

I was born in 1991 in Brazil. When I was two years old, my family and I moved to the U.S., and we later became citizens. Even though I came to live in the U.S. at such an young age, I can speak, read, and write Portuguese fluently.

I consider myself to be culturally diverse due to my parent’s wide-ranging differences. My mother, Eleonora Goretkin, is a talented visual artist who earned her degree in fine arts. My father, Guilherme Goretkin, earned his degrees in civil engineering, computer science, and oceanography, and works as a hardware and firmware engineer. My mom is also a singer and plays the guitar. Although I do not share her talent in art, I feel that I have received her musical side. On the other hand, my father has surged my interest in technology.

My interests are vast, ranging from theory to application, including music, psychology, math, and science. I am mainly interested in engineering -- specifically computer and electrical engineering.

I am currently a senior at Broward Virtual School.
